We have 2 Barcelona chairs 30 years old and need replacement cushions. I am flummoxed by all the huckster websites and wonder if it would be best to stick with Knoll. These chairs are gorgeous!

Replacements
I have a similar problem with my Barcelona. I took the cushions to a Leather shop and they told me that each square of the cushion is a cut out and then sewn together and the piping hides the seams. It would be around 600-1000 to replace with like leather. I have seen a Chinese place that makes the Cushions in different types of leather (White, Blue, Black and cow hide) for about $150-300 a set of cushions. I haven't decided yet which way to go?

what I did
With my 1940's Barcelonas.. they were ripped to pieces by the former owners cats and the foam was rockhard. I contacted one of the manufacturers that makes copies that claimed to use the original cushion sizes and ordered just the cushions. They were about 300 euro the pair - genuine leather - and actually I am very pleased with them, they are well made and fit the bill.

Will You Share...
...the name of the manufacturer you bought your replacement cushions from?
I have a pair of 1960's Barcelona Chairs in dire need of new cushions!
The price you paid sounds reasonable and if you are as pleased as you were with the originals, I think several of us might want to look into it. Thanx!

I have never seen
an aftermarket Barcelona cushion that compares to the Knoll Barcelona cushion. Either they are too tall, too thick, wrong foam, etc. Part of what makes the Barcelona chair look like a Knoll piece is the precise fit and finish of the cushion. A reproduction cushion would only make your Knoll Barcelona look like a knock-off. I guess I'd rather see beat-up original Knoll cushions, then new non-Knoll replacements. They are quite expensive to order through Knoll, but you usually get what you pay for.
just sayin'

Worn & Torn Barcelona?
I have an artist friend who's looking for a set of worn out Barcelona cushions for an art project, either that or even an abused example of a complete chair.
I know of course, that we are not supposed to do business here, except on the radar, but since I doubt many people are looking to the radar as a place to sell really worn-out design classics, I thought I could point some of the posters in this tread to the ad I just placed there:
http://www.designaddict.com/design_radar/index.cfm/fuseaction/design_rad...
And on topic: While I'm aware of the general feelings toward original vs. repros on the forum (and with which I agree most of the time). With a piece like the Barcelona chair, where it is doubtful which manufacturer today makes the version of the chair which is closest to the original design; I'd say, just make sure you get the right dimensions and the best quality for your money. In the end, you get what you pay for...
If I, myself had 2 Knoll Barcelonas, since people consider Knoll the original, I would either buy the replacement cushions from Knoll or take them to an upholsterer who can redo these chairs properly, like Majick was thinking of doing. Exchanging the original cushions for cheaper repros will possibly devalue the chairs; -if you'd ever think of parting with them...
