I think this thread has gotten sidetracked
The big development was that the OP's spray of doubtful authenticity was authenticated as an extremely rare prototype. (Congratulations!)
The conversation has been sidetracked by the highly doubtful statement of value. If you believe the authentication, then you can't possibly believe the valuation. Logic won't allow it, as the item is now virtually sui generis. There can be no comparable spray whose value suggests its value. The only way to establish the value is to sell the piece.
Until then any one person's opinion as to its value is as accurate as Val Beroia's.
So I suggest a new forum game, just like guessing the number of jelly beans in the jar:
What is the value of the prototype spray?
I will go first:$22k

ogd, yesterday there was an auction for a Speaker of the House's two Bertoia sculptures, including a spray one; the estimate was $15,000-$20,000, but it didn't meet the reserve (I actually just saw that in the linked article--I'm not trying to be a downer. I was going to say I couldn't find what the spray sold for). His name was Tom Foley, and he was an mcm collector. Hope you do well with yours.

.
Funny a Bertoia Bush sculpture turned up on last nights Antiques Roadshow in the UK, bought for £17 in 1973 from a bankrupt company that had been a Knoll importer. It was a bit beat up, valued at £10K. Seems like they're everywhere at the moment. AR strikes me as being very unreliable with valuations, either way

Thanks for
the high hopes everyone...:) From the 3 years of extensive research I've done, I've come to the conclusion that there are several factors involved in the final hammer price of any Bertoia spray (i.e., the age, provenance, size, materials, spray design, and authentication titles are a few).
If it was Bertoia for knoll, then it's not worth nearly as much, or without proper papers. I guess having people wanting to bid is just as important, but not in a retail store.

Here's a
great link showing Harry's works that ran through Wright auction house all the way back to 2002. Several welded form sculptures are presented, as well as other types of pieces.
http://www.wright20.com/search/bertoia/#
There's only a few spray examples, but the one that brought the closest to the suggested estimate had the proper authentication papers, and was a rarer design. They all have stainless steel wires though, and one still brought almost $70,000.
Some things didn't bring as much, but others went way beyond the estimates.
It's funny that from my research, they (and everyone else) call him a sculpter, except the only one place I've ever heard him not called one.

bronze Spray
The one at Quinns yesterday was bronze and very tall at 39 inches. Its interesting to note that it says its from the 1960's but purchased from Knoll in the 1980's.
