I cant remember where I read it but I have a vague memory of there being new restrike versions of the 1962 Austin Cox aluminium chess set. I seem to remember that the blue plexiglass is not included on the newer version but I am almost certain there was some other difference as the person making them was purposely trying to set the new ones apart from the old ones.

Can anyone help shed any light here info wise ?

Many thanks.

Killian.

I had two different sets in the past
and sold both. I always thought both were vintage sets. I bought one at auction maybe 10 years ago and the other at a thrift store a couple of years later.
The smaller set had shorter pieces and was in a smaller box with the blue plexiglass cover. The other set was in the same kind of walnut box but about 6" (??) wider and the pieces were maybe 3/4" taller (king/queen). The plexiglass on this one was clear. I've seen pics of these same two sets online.
So are you saying that these are being reproduced today?
eta- duh, sorry, didn't read your original statement very carefully! I have not heard of these being reproduced and now I'm wondering if I even remembered correctly about my larger set not having a blue cover...
