Hello everyone,
I have been following these forums for a few years and have never posted, but I am now in the process of furnishing our just-purchased 1950 rambler in the Washington DC area.
I am slowly acquiring pieces and find myself in need of a floor lamp for the living room. I found this at a local store and love it, but $750 seems steep.
The prices for these kinds of lamps seems to vary so much. Does this seem reasonable? Or any ideas for an affordable alternative?
Thanks in advance.
You're right, there is a lot of variation.
The original Triennale lamps sell for $5K or so, and the knockoffs/replicas/derivatives sell for anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to $2K.
The lamp you're looking at -- which might or might not be Arteluce -- seems overpriced, and I'm apparently not the only one who thinks so: The photo on that store's web page was taken over a year ago.
If you're really interested in this style of lamp, you may want to take a look at Sonneman's Treluci or Treluci Piccolo lamps; they're still in production, and while the list price is higher than the lamp you're looking at ($1600 Treluci, $1150 Treluci Piccolo), you may be able to find a good deal on one. My Treluci Piccolo, for instance, cost me just over $100 from a Sonneman dealer who really needed to sell it.
