I had a fake
I had a fake Series7 chair that I picked up at a yard sale for $30. I used it for a while, then tossed it into the spare room when I got an Eames shell chair. I tried a friends Series7 - new production - loved it! Way more comfortable than the knock off.

I have both and sit in both so I find it hard to tell. I really never spend more than 10 minutes at breakfast or 10 minutes in the lunch room They both seem to be comfortable for the short time i sit in them

Just a thought about the slipping forwards problem, depending on what sort of foot pad its got you could try replacing the front ones with thicker ones and the back ones with thinner ones.
If it was my chair I would hacksaw off about 3mm off the back legs.

Tried both the DCM and the Series 7 this weekend
I tried both chairs out this weekend. The DCM is indeed very comfortable, but I find it sucks you in, kind of forcing you to sit back. The Series 7 chair is more traditional in that it forces you to sit upright, which is pretty much what you should do when you dine.
I found the DCM to be more of a "sit back and enjoy coffee around the table" type chair while the 7 is more of a "sit and eat" chair.
I like the looks of the 7 chair a little better, though the DCM is no slouch in that department.
My wife prefers the 7 because it is a little shorter and she hates not being able to touch her feet to the ground (we go without shoes in the place).
But the 7 is about $50 more expensive than the DCM. Decisions, decisions.

ALL glued joins eventually...
ALL glued joins eventually fail, its inevitable. At least on the dcm the laminations are not structural. Though theres still the shockmounts which will go eventually aswell but might be easier to repair.
