By negative space
By 'negative space' I mean the space left between it's component parts, and to an extent, the space around the design.
When I look at a piece of design, I am aware of what I can see through it, behind it, and around it.
This is precisely what I don't like about the new design..the spaces between the parts..
For me, the first design was more successful. But, this is just my opinion..
