I love this floor lamp!: http://www.scandinavialamp.com but arghh... that price! Does anyone know of something similar that I don't have to slave for?

Made in China
Products from this "Scandinavian" lamp company are Chinese reproductions. I would avoid them at all costs.
If you sincerely are looking for Arco alternatives, you can pick them up in many second-hand stores specializing in mid-century modern. Or just look on eBay.
Did I mention that you and everyone else should avoid that company you mentioned?

Hang on...
That lamp is certainly not attempting to be like Arco - it is very different and is trying to be different.
As for the construction, it had better be darn well made or that thing will not last - China can make great products but looking at that piece I do not know - it does not have the hallmarks of real solid construction. the base where it connects to the pole looks...fragile at best.
Our Arco lamp can be swung around and hit and it is fine - the metal is strong yet flexible too.
This style on that website just does not look like it is made to last - I would think a good weight slammed against the pole while something withheld the base down would probably result in breakage.
The other concern about that lamp is that the pole appears to be one solid piece - how does it rotate well? Also, the pole flows out rather than in an Arco lamp which goes up straight up, and then loops over you making it a piece you can put right up to a chair or credenza and the pole does not start to curve until around the 5 foot mark.
This thing looks like it would get in the way. Your not putting this thing behind a sofa unless it it is running either only to the left or right of the sofa - it could not be turned.
Bad design in my books, but nice shade.
I must also add I almost jumped at a recently produced Scandinavian product until I looked under the hood - their standards by some of their manufacturers have PLUMMETED in the production department.
Their women are still very fine though.

Dude: You and your girl should have separate accounts, like Tinyarmada-M and -F, or -Am and -Oz or something.

My boyfriend and I don't think it's important.

Ha. Well, I have actually had a bone to pick with some of his opinions on occasion so I've actually considered it. (I would never say that about that chair! What a geek fight) So we've (or at least I'm) going to sign my name at the end so at the very least no one thinks I'm chasing Swedish skirts. :p
