Funny I was going to post the same thread about owls. I have always noticed the prevalence of owls in mid century modern design too! I'm also a big fan of owl designs and I collect a few myself and I'm especially drawn to the very stylized owls of the 50's through the 70's. Here are some from my collection, some I don't have anymore because I sold them and some I still have. My favorite is the last one which is the smallest owl I have.

God I even had a dream about one last night, it was about 6 ft tall, did anyone see the youtue video o the kitty and owl that were friends, its so sappy but I love those dolphin/donkey friendships.
I think my aunt had a lot of brass and biscuit coulured ceramic ones.
