Hi,

I decided recently that I want to buy an LC4 chaise. I've looked at a few places that sell reproductions and then I found a place that sells the real deal. At least they claim to. The problem is I'm finding it very hard to find any decent information on the net about the exact specifications and features of the genuine product. Even the Cassina website only mentions that the genuine chaise should have signiture and serial number stamped on the base, but doesn't even provide any good photos.

So I have a few questions, and I'm hoping that someone either owns one or is familiar enough with the genuine article that they could give me some answers.

1. Does the real LC4 use straps or wires to support the cushion?

2. How should the thick cross bars that the upper portion rests on attach to the rest of the base? Welded? Screwed? If screwed, how many screws?

3. Are there any holes at all in the tubular frame?

4. Are there any joins in the tubular frame?

If anyone can shed light even some of these things that would be great. And if anyone has any other tips for distinguishing the real thing from a reproduction let me know.

Depends on the age; mine, which dates from the 1960s uses paired sprung wires coated in rubber.

Screwed, with three screws
3. Are there any holes at all in the tubular frame?
I think there might be a couple, but only a couple of mm's across.
4. Are there any joins in the tubular frame?
All the cassina ones I've seen are made in two halfs ie. split longitudinally with joins under the foot and head areas. The two sides are joined with dowels and screws.
The chrome frame should be stamped at the headrest end (you have to get down low to see it).

thanks for the info
So later revisions use the straps? It's always confused me because I was sure the original had spring wires, so I'd thought that anything with straps had to be a reproduction, but I guess not.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Now that I've seen the real thing in the flesh for the first time, I realise that all the reproductions I've seen have significant differences. Especially the base. I thought I would be happy with a reproduction but now I'm not so sure. Unless I can find one that's much closer to the real thing than what I've seen so far, I think I'll have to fork over the cash...
