I saw an amazing one in a thrift store. The top was that weird yellow with faint green streaking in it. Formica? The underside was the same vintage green with yellow streaking in it, so one could apparently use either side up. The top was square with half circle ends. It had two leaves. The top had the usual streamlined, ribbed strip running around the perimeter edge of the table as you often see in these old things. But the memorable part was the frame underneath. It had tubular legs that gathered toward the center and then flared back out and the three or four tubes collaring the legs at the waist of the legs before they flared out. The under carriage looked very streamlined in style. I didn't want to buy it, but I can't get the damned thing out of my mind and wonder who made it. I could find no manufacturers markings.
My aunt had one like that, and it was quite a cool set.
I eventually was given this set when my aunt got a newer, fairly generic wood table/chair set.I think these were made in Massachusetts.Oval table top with aluminum ribbed trim and it even had a leaf! The set had amazing chairs, with a square cut out of the seat back, all lined with the chrome upholstery tacks front and back, and these were known as the "paperclip" style chair with the rounded front legs which looped back up.It was a deep red/Gray vinyl, and I actually owned it for about 15 years, until a couple of years ago when I acquired my Knoll/Saarinen oval set.Much happier with the Knoll 🙂
