I am now the proud owner of a Chevron chair, 1957, Hille & Co.

However.. The webbing on the has been really badly redone. So I need to know how the chairs were originally webbed? There are slits in the wood on the base and top of the back, but the present webbing has been wrapped around and stapled to the wood!

If you have a chair, and would be willing to send some photos of the webbing and clips, that would be great! Can't seem to find anything on the web.

Thank you! Stew

Hi Stew
I don't have the Chevron, but I have a Robin Day sofa and pair of armchairs from 1959
I could do you some pics on Thursday of the webbing attachments ?
(they're at my weekend place)

Clips & rubber
Hi Stew,
Robert's photos should show it clearly but from your description I think they should be clips similar to this:

which are then pushed into the slots in the top of the frame. That's the way the daybed and from my memory Chevron chairs are webbed. Any competent upholsterer should be able to do it for you or you could give it a go yourself.

Really helpful!
Thank Robert, the photos would be very helpful. I will likewise puts some photos on tonight. Thanks Artie, I think they're the right clips.. I'm just confused as to how they attach.. as it looks like they'll just pop straight out again? I'll put the photos on later.. Many many thanks!
Stew

From Memory
the slots are angled towards the inside..so the tension on the strap keeps them in place.
If that makes sense?
I did post pictures of the sofa in pieces on here a long time ago- but doubt very much whether I could find them now, and they're not on this computer.

Could Be
Right as they are Stew ? (probably without the staples though !)
The Form group has wraparound webbing, and the Chevron certainly does at the seat

I get it!
I get it.. They wrap around and then attach neatly into the narrow slot. Clever! Thank you. You don't have any close ups do you? (where the clips go in etc). Do your chairs have a stamp / sticker on them.. Mine is lacking that.

Mine are different Hille ones..more like a club chair.

I have just posted on this...
I have just posted on this great site 18th Jan - Robin Day Hille chair?? - then looked about and think I have found my answer.
I bought this chair yesterday - see attached image - the only other example I could find though a google image search on Hille.
I can see from my chair exactly how it all attaches - so if you would like photos etc then I'd be happy to provide..
I see the very same chair in the catalogue page attached by another user.
Could anyone give me some more info to my thread.
Cost me £100 and wondering whether it is worth getting it back to original condition..
DOes anyone know the name, date of issue, wood, cost etc...

1959
The catalogue (as featured in Lesley Jackson's Robin & Lucienne Day) is too small to read the date, price or materials.
I'm unsure as the timber. .he used rosewood..both Brazilian and Bombay, as well as Makore, walnut and teak at this time.

Then it must be...
Then it must be teak.
Thanks for your info.
Do you know how much these now sell for?

Really lovely...
Really lovely chairs.Apologies for going slightly off topic but does anyone know about the artwork on the walls of Peter Moro's house ? (The 2nd picture that Robert kindly posted).I've often wondered.
Thanks.
