I am now the proud owner of a Chevron chair, 1957, Hille & Co.
However.. The webbing on the has been really badly redone. So I need to know how the chairs were originally webbed? There are slits in the wood on the base and top of the back, but the present webbing has been wrapped around and stapled to the wood!
If you have a chair, and would be willing to send some photos of the webbing and clips, that would be great! Can't seem to find anything on the web.
Thank you! Stew
Clips & rubber
Hi Stew,
Robert's photos should show it clearly but from your description I think they should be clips similar to this:
which are then pushed into the slots in the top of the frame. That's the way the daybed and from my memory Chevron chairs are webbed. Any competent upholsterer should be able to do it for you or you could give it a go yourself.
Really helpful!
Thank Robert, the photos would be very helpful. I will likewise puts some photos on tonight. Thanks Artie, I think they're the right clips.. I'm just confused as to how they attach.. as it looks like they'll just pop straight out again? I'll put the photos on later.. Many many thanks!
Stew
I have just posted on this...
I have just posted on this great site 18th Jan - Robin Day Hille chair?? - then looked about and think I have found my answer.
I bought this chair yesterday - see attached image - the only other example I could find though a google image search on Hille.
I can see from my chair exactly how it all attaches - so if you would like photos etc then I'd be happy to provide..
I see the very same chair in the catalogue page attached by another user.
Could anyone give me some more info to my thread.
Cost me £100 and wondering whether it is worth getting it back to original condition..
DOes anyone know the name, date of issue, wood, cost etc...
