Heath again
I used to have a few things upholstered by a rather well known upholsterer in Camberwell Victoria but it was like making an appointment to see the Queen...you were treated like a peasant and to have anything upholstered was akin to buying the Queens jewels...so that's a big yes from me with your opinion.
Thankfully technology has become what it is and yes I too buy anything of quality in Europe or the US but saying that from time to time I buy from Leonard Joels Auctions in Melbourne as they have a large Jewish client base and are ridiculously inexpensive ...Have you been or bought there?
But then there's good ol' ebay...my saviour as a collector.
In a small country like ours we have the advantage of MCM still not being recognised for what it is so it has it's advantages.
Where do you live Heath?
Ah you have a good memory...
Ah you have a good memory too!
The house....well I'm in the middle of underpinning as it has a slight drop in the footings and I can't start anything else 'til it's level but I'm getting there. Cosmetics is the easy part with renovations so long as you have plans in place...but I'll keep you posted here. I'm a bit of a 60's 70's purist so it's going to take longer than I thought.
What do collect?
I only ask as you said you tried to buy only Australian.
The obligatory Featherstons?
I have the Numero round sofas which I intend on putting them into the floor to make a round 'sofa pit'
Nice place Queensland....All of it
Really?
Its actually...
Really?
Its actually pretty good collecting wise here, have had a Scape dining suite, sold it, missed a numero setting by 10 minutes a while ago, Wegner, Wanscher, Aarnio, Olsen and Jalk have all turned up, a lot of discrete wealth here, the normal ratio of public to private schools is reversed, just an indication. I'd be happier if the local timbers weren't so bloody hard but its okay.
I have a bit of spare time and could help with any 3d modelling on the place if you aren't having daylight studies etc done already.
There certainly is a lot of...
There certainly is a lot of discrete wealth up there. Suprisingly Victoria (Melbourne) should have a lot more than surfaces, given that they have the largest Jewish community. What I mean by that is that it was the Jews in the 50's that had an insight to what was shit and what was clay.
I'm not concerned much any more as online buying suffices more than I ever could have imagined. Retail is so overpriced.
3d modelling as in CAD or something tangible?
I like that very much.
I've been in Construction most of my life so any plans I have are in my head. As for 20th Century design, that too most of my life and I'm 47
I now deal in exotic Aboriginal Artefacts same as below
This is the sort of thing I...
This is the sort of thing I do(not mine) but I prefer to use it for passive solar and the like. If you emailed me a floor plan, gps co ordinates and accurate cardinal points sketched over the top the machine can produce a nice render based on that.
Say you wanted to put in a window on one side, it can illustrate just how much depth of sunlight penetration you'll get in the middle of winter or conversely show how a sun shade at the front moved a few inches could produce a nicer shadow or prevent too much glare, it would be a fun simple project for me, and tongue chairs would be an easy modelling job.
