I've recently acquired this wonderful lamp (apologies for the poor photograph) and was told it was designed by John & Sylvia Reid in 1952 and manufactured by George Forrest & Son Ltd
I can't find any information online in support of this. Can anyone confirm, and point me in the direction of any relevent site / literature ?

.
Stunning. I think its just by John Reid on his own, I've only ever seen the table version. Stunning!

Hello, it's definitely by John Reid for George Forrest / Forrest Modern + date is correct. They are pretty scarce, did you acquire it from a dealer?
Would love to see some more pics if possible (PS: as Paulanna said. "Stunning")

Thanks for the confirmation...
Thanks for the confirmation chaps. In the meantime I've seen the desk version pictured in From Austerity to Affluence.
I acquired it form a gentleman who'd bought it in 1952 rather than a dealer. It needs to be rewired which poses a challenge to its originalitity. Having given it a good clean it's in remarkably good condition, save a small scratch to the paint finish on the outside of the relector
Will post some close up shots of the lamps themselves, as well as some wall lamps from the same range i also acquired. for anyone who is interested

Great find!
Especially from the original owner!
Did the gentleman have post war British furniture also?
I have a few Forrest refs in period books / magazines, will try to scan and send to you if you can give me your email?

For such a
stunningly beautiful lamp, it's disappointing attention wasn't given to hiding those ugly, floppy wires in the design....unless it was wired improperly in the past and that is another reason for rewiring?

Fixed Wiring
The wiring is 'loose' on all versions of these lamps (apart from the short rod that attaches to the shades, which is hollow and takes a wire)
The lamps are all made from a set of components (shades, clamps, rods, bases) and the idea was that the user could position how they wished.

Pics for Mr Wilson
As Mr Wilson has mentioned in the past that he has approached the Reids regarding a possible book, I thought you might like to see these pics of their lampshades that I recently bought.
Amazingly they came in their original box and they still have their tags attached citing the catalogue no as 4109/3. I recall that you said you had the Rotaflex catalogue and I was hoping you might post a picture of these lampshades in the catalogue, please and thank you! It might provide me with some inspiration as to how to hang them as there are 5 of them.

Jinx
Thanks for posting the pics - a great find indeed!
I have the catalogue and will post image/s soon for you.
I've always loved the Rotaflex logo / their graphics, would it be possible to post bigger / closer shots of the labels?
Thanks in advance

Interplay pics
Hi Jinx, please see catalogue scans attached. Apologies for poor images, the original photos are quite dark (showing lights 'on') and tricky to scan. I've marked the text that applies to your shades, and it looks like a group of 5 would hang together as described...
Best regards

Thank you!
Greatly appreciate you posting those catalogue images. It's great to see how the group of five were hung together. I had no idea there were so many variants of the design.
I could email you some high resolution pics of the labels if you would like?
