Yep, I have a few large ones standing here and there + I've sold quite a few through the years. Could you perhaps attach a picture that I could see? The vases were handblown so their sizes are slighty different from vase to vase, but the "fake" ones have another, hmmm, expression?, than the Holmegaard vases.
M_Andersen,
It may not...
M_Andersen,
It may not look so clearly (my wife took the camera to singapore). I took the pic with my phone camera. Tha largest one is 50 cm ~ 20 inch
Medium one is 30 cm ~ 12 inch
and the small ones is 25cm ~ 10 inch
What do you think? The large one is definetely original, i doubt about its originality of the grey one.
Hey Builder. Just call me...
Hey Builder. Just call me Martin.
The picture's ok. Actually I would rate them all as being org. They look similar reg. the proportions even though they're different sizes, don't they?
I've found some interesting info. The gulvases made by Holmegaard here in Denmark (the clear glass versions) were made only in dark green, light brown and dark blue. At some point a company based in the UK either took over the production or made them under license, however they only produced them in light grey, light blue and clear, colourless glass. These colours are rarely seen in Denmark but should be pretty common in the UK.
I've seen a lot of fake gulvases in bright colours with a white interior, but only a few clear ones and when you saw those, you could see instantly that they were fake. However I once saw a grey gulvase that I doubted was org. but I can't quite judge yours from your picture.
An interesting fact is, that these vases were made in 5 sizes and their height made them ideal to stand on the floor with flowers in them. In Danish, "gulv" means floor and vase is the same as in English. In Denmark they're known as a "gulv vase" but I assume that at some point "gulv vase" turned into "gulvase".
Martin,
It s Henry here....
Martin,
It s Henry here. Thanks for the info, i coudnt find any on the net, but you have broaden my mind. A guy came to my house today (to collect a chair he bought from me on ebay) He was an antique dealer, he was amazed recognize the gulv vase straigh away. He insisted to come and had a look. He was impressed with my knowledge (yours, actually) about gulv vase.
Fell happy to share a nice thing with someone who appreciate it the way we do. Thanks, Mate.
It's hard to tell. But I...
It's hard to tell. But I don't think so, it appears to be authentic. The white/white version is the rarest version from Holmegaard. They were made in orange/white, red/white, dark red/white, blue/white, green/white, yellow/white, yellow/yellow and white/white. What makes you think that it might be fake, builder?
