While sorting through some old postcards I came across these two that Hudson Marquez gave to me a few years (decades) ago.
Hudson is a Los Angeles based artist and an original member of Ant Farm.
I enjoy the scale and humor of Ant Farm's work and this installation in particular.

Doug Michels
Doug Michels (from Ant Farm) was a professor at the University of Houston when I was there and he took us to see the House of the century that Ant Farm designed and built in 1972. The house was abandoned when we were there but below are some pics from it's heyday.

Very nice!
It reminds me of a place that i passed through (way too buzzed) in Texas. Perhaps it was called Cadillac Ranch? on my way to Marfa (sp?) Texas...once.
or something. Oh god.
Aunt Mark

Upon a second glance....
I do believe that it is the same set of cars/art installation (perhaps)?...only sans the graffiti.
But maybe not.
Always,
Old Mark

Yes Mark, it is Cadillac Ranch. The cars are Cadillacs with fins ranging from 1949 to 1963. Thanks for pointing that out and to Mvalen for sharing the House of the Century. It reminds me of the Milk Bar in Clockwork Orange... Allen Jones furniture would fit in perfectly.
The attached is from the recent Kubrick exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Dang, Photobucket pulled my Allen Jones bench photo. It's not like I was trying to post images from Mapplethorpe's X, Y and Z portfolios which were showing in another gallery at same time as the Kubrick exhibit.

He's right.
Sadly, the silver c. 1949 fast-back that's first in line in the top photo, is the same car that appears in the foreground of the last Cadillac Ranch photo -- I believe. I wasn't aware that the array had sunk to that low at the end. As I understand it the cars are gone now. Is that correct ?
