Am I crazy? I just found a mccobb planner desk (the one with the splayed legs) for $200. It needs some refinishing but the carmel color is otherwise very nice. The problem is that I just bought one last week in black lacquer. I also have the double pedestal mccobb. I love the splayed legs look, but think I must be crazy to consider another. Right?

Offhand, I'd say yes--
you're a crazy deskaholic.
But, on second thought... maybe you have an enormous house with numerous rooms to furnish. Did you think you needed another desk before you saw the inexpensive McCobb? If not, don't buy it.

$200.00 is a nice price...you're smart to go after it.
I really like the McCobb Planner Group group, but they certainly show their lower price point.
Two of the four Planner Group chairs I own have split along the right down the middle of the seat wood sections. I have reglued them, but assembling the seat from pieces of wood is one of the reasons why they're on the cheaper side!
The rest of my Planner Group furniture (my kitchen table, my pair of nightstands, a couple of occasional tables) are holding up well.

thanks
I decided to pass on the desk. I always wanted one of these mccobb's, but never saw one for sale in Phoenix. I had resigned to either having to buy one on ebay or not ever getting one. Then within 2 weeks, there are two for sale. I just dont need another one, and so I passed on it. I am thinking of putting the money towards a Dunbar Roger Sprunger credenza that is for sale...
BTW, I agree the Planner line is not the best quality! I was surprised when I saw my first desk. But I still love the simplistic modern look. And I really like the splayed legs.

The planner line is quite nice, and under rated IMO. I give it 4 out of 5 stars for most pieces!

WELL
The desk seems to be one of the more common pieces of Mcccobb but one of the best buys in a vintage desk design.Mccobb is surely underated...the simpler pieces are among my favorites.

YES
I favor them as well I have the long one without the drawer thank god and a square one, both beige travertine. These travertine top Directional pieces are sort of "crossover" furniture, a number of(mainstream)designers use the stool from this line in particular...
