A sunny Hello from Berlin,
I bought a nice Aluminium group Lounge chair, Vitra labled on the Base, but the Base seemes to be strange - i recognized this far to late. What do you think, is it original or Fake?

I'm probably wrong, but
the "antler" underneath the chair appears odd. Also, the front angle of the arms appear slightly off. But maybe Vitra manufactures their chair differently. My guess is that it is not an authentic chair...and I' sure that is what you really don't want to hear.
but I've been wrong before.

never seen such a base
and your chair looks like it wasn `t conical in the seat and in the back.
i `ve looked at my old Alu Lounger and it never looks linear.

Mmh...
Actually it is conical, the shape seems quite right to me. But the antle - i was missing this Word when I released the thread - Looks different to every other I've Seen in the web. There is no Eames Label on Upper Part of the leather. What do you think about the lables, especially the one made of paper?
Need more pics?
Thanks for your help, J

The chair is both fake and original.
But it was not manufactured by Herman Miller or Vitra.
Thanks for posting,
Aunt Mark

Didn't most (all?) of the...
Didn't most (all?) of the high back chairs come with the tilt mechanism? If the rest of the chair looks original maybe it was an original and the tilt mechanism broke? And the owner had a replacement part made? A competent metalworker could knock that part up in his garage....

but..
it's that odd looking piece that has 2 very convincing looking Vitra labels on it.
Perhaps they had it fabricated for the reasons you say, and transferred the labels?
However, the paper one looks like it was always there, and would be difficult to transplant!
Mysterious..

I thought about this as well...
But the paper vitra Label ( with a Number ) is on the suspicious antle, i dont think the metalworker would renew this sticker. So far I Gounod some more strange things:
No Label on the Leather: Only on very old Ea from vitra
The screw with cross: Vitra, Herman Miller uses the six-angle thing.
The Händle on the back: No screw visible at vitras ea, in H.M.'s ea ( and in Mine ) Four screws for the six-angle tool...
Maybe Hermitra... Vitrilla... Or just Guanghzou...

Even so, I can't see that...
Even so, I can't see that part coming out of Vitra's factory; not when they had access to the original designs.
Either the whole chair is a fake and someone put stickers on it or the base was replaced and someone put stickers on it.
Mysterious indeed...

Quite interesting, indeed.
I don't think that the chair is leather, as it looks more like vinyl on my older computer monitor. I blame Ray Eames.
Carry on, I might be wrong.
Best,
Aunt Mark and SDR jr.
ps you have a unique chair, enjoy it.

It is...
Vinyl. To be honest, the measurements I found in the net dont't fit, Mine is higher and Not that wide like the ea 124...
Would be nice to know more. I saw the patent of Charles eames from the 50's for the aluminium group and the Base is the Same like the recent Collection.
Maybe i'll ask vitra to help me.
You're right, a unique chair something inbetween vitra, Miller and china...

The height difference could...
The height difference could be explained by the new/different "antler" part of the base. (Does it have an official name? Upper base?)
Maybe not the width difference, unless the new part is not stretching the vinyl to full potential.

Looks fake to me. The base is...
Looks fake to me. The base is not correct and also the bolts/screws at the top are not correct either. It also does not have the same body shape as the aluminum group.

Whitout the Stickers...
I Would definitly agree. To speak about the measurements, i have to say that i am Not sure if i was wrong yesterday, maybe to much wine, the sketches with the dimensions of the original ea 124 dont Show exactly wehre to measure. The comlete hight is definitly Not the same, but the rest could fit. Can someone with an original just Tell me the measurements of the Upper end of the back?
The Vitra Label with the signature of Charles eames says: original alu chair... Is it the same in the original?
I was Looking at different replicas in the net but they have all similar bases like the original...
Interesting.
