Earlier Eames 670 with ottoman (maybe from the 60's) in Walnut with cushions that are shot for $700. Is it worth the investment as it will need all new(or at least used ones in decent condition) cushions. Thoughts from the forum?

?
Do you mean new cushions (probably down??) and new leather?, or just new cushions? I always prefer a patina'd look. Patina is wonderful..as shown by my face.
just a thought.
ps. the price seems ok.

I prefer the vintage look of leather also but the leather on the otoman is torn up with missing buttons. Leather on the chair looks really beat up and missing buttons on the seat. Maybe the leather on the chair is salvagable but definitely not the ottoman and it will be tough to find a used match as it is a light brown.

Oh my...
I wouldn't be offended if the ottoman and the chair didn't match. Would you consider a textile for the ottoman, as opposed to leather? Or would that be too unorthodox? Perhaps the ottoman and the bottom cushion could be some fabulous Maharam textile? Or maybe I'm just buzzed. The price sounds good.
Carry on.

I see.
Well it does look to require a total upholustural hysterectomy.
I'm undecided.
Best,

No doubt
...you've been considering all your options...
Do you prefer that color leather, or is your intention to recover regardless of whether cushions are salvageable or not?
Is it tempting to you because it's hard to find and you never see one for sale at that price locally?
Assuming the cost to recover and new/foam would be $1500 or so, you would be in for around $2k.
Could you find a better condition all original one for $2K? Probably eventually...
I admit, I would be tempted, as I live in meager MCM area, but I do not like that color leather and truthfully, I wouldn't love the chair as much were it newly upholstered.
If you plan on keeping it forever, and you don't have the time, patience, or ambition to search for one that's all original...then get it and reupholster it to your liking.
I would think a reupholstered Eames lounge...even an older one would be less of an investment piece . That is an important criteria to some. Could you turn around in a year or two and at the very least get back $2k? I think so...
jdip: just reread your last post saying that you prefer the look of vintage leather. Perhaps you've answered your own question. I mean, why settle?

Believe it or not, jdip.
I have a set of early '70's ES670 cushions in that same (or very close) color that I would say are in "good" condition. Arm pads "very good" and backings "near-new". I've been hanging on to them for years because I'm a lazy pack rat.
I know that we're not supposed to discuss transactions on this forum, but I thought maybe, if you like the color, you'd also like to know that a matching set of cushions is not an impossible find.
And, as my lovely accountant and social director will attest, I'm open to persuasion.
