I'm not a seller/dealer and don't have experience shipping large items like an Eames Elliptical table. I'm trying to get this table back to the West coast (Canada) after having lived in the East for several years.

UPS will accept the size and weight of the table but it is still so long and heavy that I can't figure out the best way to package it safely even with the wire bases removed. I've rummaged through my condo building's extensive cardboard recycling trying to find appropriately long cardboard with no luck. I tried taping 2 boxes together to cover the length but it doesn't seem like it will be sturdy enough. I've thought about trying to protect the edges with some kind of foam and then tightly wrapping the whole thing in that stretchy plastic wrap used to secure boxes onto pallets. Good idea?

Can any experienced shippers tell me how they would do it? Thanks for the advice!

My suggestion
Ship the bases separately.
Foam-, bubble-, and shrink-wrap the top, and then double box it.
And ship via FedEx.

Shrink wrap is a wonderful thing.
Try layering bubble wrap and cardboard over all the surfaces with an extra thick layer of cardboard over the edges, then go crazy with the shrink wrap to hold it all in place.

this may help
demp945,
Remove the bases and try to using two (2) stand-up wardrobe boxes taped together. I also like to use pipe insulation foam (it is split down the side - Home Depot) when I require edge protection. A good amount of bubble wrap goes without saying. I only ever use FedEx Ground for my shipping needs (they have the lowest amount of damage and the best claims department when needed). Insure for replacement value. Good luck.

Excellent advice all around....
Excellent advice all around. The pipe insulation foam is just what I'm looking for to protect the edge of the table. Many thanks!
