I am in the middle of rethinking my decor and slowly making my way toward a vintage/retro interior, teak sideboards, danish leather sofa etc, you get the picture...
I have wooden floors and can't decide on the type of rug I want. I like the stone coloured wool range bordered by suede by Crucial Trading (uk) but I saw a beautiful stitched cowhide rug at the weekend and fell in love. What do you think? any other ideas?

Either
a cowhide..a full one..not a stitch up job
A nice Kilim/ Afghan rug in the right colours
Or a large Danish RYA rug
there are so many nasty new 'retro' rugs on the market..most of them have never seen a sheep, and will look dated..
well..
yesterday
oh.. Crucial do nice neutral textured rugs ..:)

Thoughts...
Angela Adams does some very nice things with pattern and color that would work well in a retro interior, I would think.
As for cowhides, I got an Argentinian hide last year that is really really great. The quality is wonderful, no obvious injuries to the hide and it's extremely well cured and soft. If you are in the US you could get one from the place I got it online for only about $300 to $400 Delivered! If you're interested I'll go find the link and post it.

I've got a pretty big Persian, an Isfahan pattern I think (I know little about them) but it is silky.
Anyway its good to have a home that doesn't look like a museum set piece where its just add-water-danish-modern. Different things can look pretty good together, Mies (or the owners) used them in the Tugendhat and they look great.

I have three suggestions:
1. Sisal's an inexpensive, appropriate option-- natural or colored.
2. A geometric Kilim, in earth tones.
3. Check out these felted-wool rugs, at Velocity:

Nice ideas folks. I like the groovy retro rugs but I'm not adventurous enough for them 🙂
I do like Kilims but they're hard to find in the right colours 🙁 (I like stine / grey tones)
I love the feel of hides....Olive, I'm in Ireland so all the goodies in hand in the USA are a bit far 🙁
Sisal is great but a bit scratchy on bare feet...?
I think I'll do a little window shopping this weekend 🙂
Thanks all.

The felted wool rugs are a great start. Nice neutral background for collecting some
new furnishings.
Even Pottery Barn has a version of it.
I've triple padded mine, so it is a fluffy 3inches.
(it is a vintage wool shag from the 60's and needs replacing soon so
i am shopping as well)
I have a couple cow hides that i love.(the quality is important as Olive stated)
The ikea Ringum, small round rugs, wool with cotton back are well made and
i use those for doormats and in the bathrooms. Great colors.
My favorite though, are Flokatis. I have 2 5x8's that i cut in half so they can be
thrown in the wash. They just get better with every wash and can be loosely stitched
together for a bigger rug. Now i just toss them around as dog beds.
They come in various grades and the thicker the better.
I got mine at a country auction for 20 bucks. (they looked like ratty old shags so
no one wanted them)
Probably my first choice to replace my liv rm rug. the 4000 grm.
I just googled and randomly picked this one for reference.
(i have not researched the best company yet)
