American Seating Acton Stack Chairs
I just snagged (dirt cheap) and sold (dirt cheap) a pile of these - used in the old C&P Telephone offices in Virginia.
The welds were broken on a few from repeated stacking but were an easy fix. Not very comfortable, but people ate them up in sets of 4.
Designed by Hugh Acton for American Seating
Hugh Acton won the Institute of Business Designers Award for Design Excellence for these in 1976 I think it was, unique z-shaped frame design, and the contoured ergonomic back and seat with waterfall support for legs was a big step forward. I find them pretty comfortable if you sit up straight.
I just bought 7 of these with chrome all the way around, armcaps and dirty upholstery. Their catalogs say upholstery inserts are removable for replacement of fabric and foam
cushioning. Anybody ever clean the fabric on one of these? I'm wondering where to start.
