Hello,
I'm hoping there are some Aalto experts out there who can help. I have a chest of drawers that looks very similar to Aalto chests that I have seen but there are some differences. There is a date stamp of 1938 on the back and there are two small nail holes at the back that look like it could have had a Finmar label (but I may just being hopeful there!). The leg structure is the same as other Aalto cabinets and the overall feel seems right, but the handles are different.
Any help would be much appreciated. I am a dealer and have searched and searched but with no luck. If that is a problem please don't reply!
Many thanks,
Ben.

Definitely Aalto
IIRC its illustrated in 'The Flat Book' (Martin & Speight, 1939). Big retailers of Aalto furniture in the 30s such as Bowmans of Camden Town and Heals routinely removed the plastic Finmar labels, Bowmans would even ink stamp Aalto pieces with their own name.
Wow, thanks!
Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I think it's really handsome too. Riki, yes i'm pretty sure it is maple (that is what I was told when I bought it too).
Thanks for the confirmation Paulanna, that's great to hear as I know you are clued up on this period. I've not heard of that book before so I will have to try to get hold of a copy (a quick Google search for it doesn't look promising). Do you have the book? If you are able to find it in your book and confirm for sure that it is Aalto that would be fantastic.
Thanks again everyone,
Ben.
Thanks Paulanna
Thanks, that would be great.
I did find this Aalto chest: http://www.twentytwentyone.com/displayProduct.asp?ProductID=3025&x=910
Which looks very similar, but the handles are different and my drawers slide right into the carcass as opposed to the front panels overlapping the front of the carcass as they appear to do on this example.
