We have a beautiful dining set inherited by an aunt who was over 90 years old. We would like to find out what it is worth. All the pieces have the Mahogany Association Inc. Stickers with the # 434. Another brass tag is found on the inside of the buffet saying "Pioneer Furniture Co. Detroit's Finest Furniture Store." She lived in Detroit Michigan and I know she had this furniture for many years. I looked up the Pioneer Furniture Co. on the internet with no luck. Do you have any information about any of this? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Polly

#434 Mahogany Association Inc. - 3 legged round vase table
Hi Polly,
My wife and I are trying to find the value of a table that she inherited from her mother. We put the description on a web search and noted that you were inquiring about #434 as well. It seems you have the larger portion of the set that this round table was a part of. Did you find out any information that might help determine the value?
Thanks,
Michael

Hi Polly & Michael,
I'm afraid what you have there is a recycling number.
This furniture was made with a core consisting of raw,
un-refined asbestos, offcourse in a time when the enormous
hazards of this products weren't yet aknowledged.
The mahogany is just a super, wafer thin veneer glued on top
and by now means does this protect against the large potential damage
and trauma.
After long term use, owners experience itching to arms (when for instance, riding over cobblestones)
and often a sensation of tiredness is felt, usually late at night.
As this furniture was so widely spread and (ironically) a huge commercial
success, the influence on national health and the impact more specific on the number of deaths are very hard to determine.
It is said Obama's administration were looking in to the problem, after former administrations just ignored and even denied, but the elections brought a halt to this.
For the moment, one can only stand in wonder and amazement of what these people could do, with such harmfull and potentially lethal materials.

I can't really tell anymore if you're being ironic or not, Mark 🙂
5 replies/messages and more than 2200 readings, maybe we've stopped
the mahogany-craze (people everywhere in the the states now are running out of there mahogany-infected houses, yelling and screaming..)
