royal rip 2
I almost forgot to mention the lovely rocking arm chair for the ridiculously low price of $4628.00 now the owner in Paris says all from the 50's The plane ride was expensive. This is what Charles and Ray Eames were talking about affordable furniture, something about the French and there high prices!!!!!

I wonder
I wonder how many of these people are actually being deceitful or just dont understand the different variations. When I found my first chair I was really excited because I thought it could be valued over 1000$. As I learned more and more I realized that what i had was somewhat valuable, but not nearly as valuable as I'd initially thought.
I think it can be really overwhelming when you start researching the Eames, since so much has been written about their work and the impact it has, but almost nothing on the value of individual pieces. The subtlest thing - a label, a makers mark, a foot glide - can determine which years and how valuable a piece is.
The problem is that there are so many people out there putting up these kinds of ads that you can't go after every one of them. That kind of negativity is just a drag.

lucifersum is right
Lucifersum makes good points. So much has been written about the Eames and to the modern aficionado like myself it is just plain silly to see shop people put the most ridiculous price on the Eames pieces. I am sure almost every one of us who reads this forum who at one time or another purchased our first piece of modern furniture it was something made by the Eames. so the most uninformed one of us (I did not want to use the word Ignorant cause that would not be fair) knows something of what a Eames Shell chair cost . Where to buy it, Where to look for them, (ebay,Cregs list , vintage stores, estate sales, Dumpsters, or old University surplus sales) , sorry if i left one out , so to see these chairs on 1st dibs with the most astronomical prices is just plain stupid and it personally insults me, I have said i am a Capitalist and like to make money and see people make money but that is so ridiculous about the price of those chairs it deserves to be bought to this forum for our weekly laugh.

First Dibs is often overpriced...
While occassionally you will find a decent deal on First Dibs, I find that they more often than not tend to be overpriced. I can usually find much better deals by looking on ebay, auction houses, other dealer websites, etc. But then First Dibs is just the showcase where sellers show their goods. It's the individual sellers who are overpricing their merchandise. I think many of these sellers think us buyers are complete suckers. I've seen some things on First Dibs that have been there for months because they are so over-priced. You'd think the seller would clue into the fact that most buyers are not as big of suckers as they think.

no foot stool for that price.
does not have a foot stool but it will cost you with maharam fabric to recover this chair around $1400.00, so you are literally picking the chair up for around 900.00 now to ship these chairs cause they are big could be as much as 200.00, just thought that i would be kind to 1st dibs since i am usually hard on them , with my 1st dibs rip of the week award.

lrf, i always enjoy your comments about what goes on with 1st dibs. i am a designer and get emails from other e-commerce sites similar to the idea of 1st dibs. i have mentioned them before as i was so happy to receive the info. however i was chastised repeatedly by the_beloved. the_beloved is contentious toward my replies regarding these other sites, one in particular. and thus i have no longer replied for fear of being reprimanded again. but you should know there are other sites out there with dealers not exploiting the buyer. nor does it seem to me these sites are trying to brand their sites or their person (as is the case of 1st dibs)in order to capitalize from a buyout by one of the internet companies focused on the mediocrity of the dumbing down of mall and catalog culture we seem to exist in. this really seems to exist exclusively in new york and at the end of the day is all about ones greed and ego.

Who jumped on who?
LRF, when someone challenges your position, you respond. And you respond fiercely. I do the same.
Norris, you called me out twice on my opinion unprovoked, outright challenging me by name. Are you saying I can't defend my position?
Let's review the threads:

In the 1stdibs thread, I was defending Patrick and Alix, AND defending LRF's right to voice his opinion.
Shame on me, LRF? Are you sure about that?

A simple solution
Norris, the only time I responded to you, was when you typed "the_beloved" in your post.
If you want me to stop replying to your posts, then stop typing my name to call me out.
You can post whatever you want on the forum. But if you type in my name.... I will respond.

In the 1stdibs thread, I was defending Patrick and Alix, AND defending LRF's right to voice his opinion.(for information purposes what did Patrick and Alix need defending on they never say a thing)
Shame on me, LRF? Are you sure about that?
No I am not sure about anything !!!!
I never read anyone but Koen and DC Wilson ever say anything nice to me or about me ,
everyone just wants to get on board and dump on me and tell me how rude I am , cause i have a opion and enjoy stating it .some like "this that" say i don't know what I am talking about and a drag on this forum .
If you were one of the few that stated i have a right to have a opion i thank you . and did not mean to offend you or piss you off at all.
I read that Norris was having a tough time trying to get his/her voice heard about lst dibs I more than likely should have referenced the archives to view the transcript for this I am sorry to you.
I hate to say it but I start 90 percent of the Threads on this Forum so If i am a drag on this forum it would be a sad day for it if i packed it up cause no one else ever seems to start anything new right? Patrick and Alix.

yes i did
i did call you out because you assaulted my comments regarding a certain website you seem to take issue with. i don't know what they do, or if they play by the rules or whatever. maybe they honestly don't know what it is you are blaming them for. why do you even care? why do you care if i recommend their site? it is another resource for the design trade that i felt like passing along as i am bored with the format, the pomp and pageantry and the dealers on 1stdibs. is that okay?

Norris, it is certainly OK to state your opinion.
There is a misinterpretaton that is the root to your problem with me. Correct me at any point where I am inaccurate. In point form:
LRF started a thread saying how much 1stdibs sucked. I stated my opinions, which was different than LRF's. I thought 1stdibs was a good thing.
girlygirl started a thread to check out a website vintageandmoderninc. The forum veterans quickly recognized it as an advertisement DISGUISED as a thread, by an agent of the website. Here, I said this THREAD was a bad thing, because it was not a real thread. It was disguised advertising that circumvented advertising fees to Patrick and Alix. And I said, such sneakness reflects poorly on the company.
Norris, correct me if I am wrong, but I think that you interpreted my opinion as:
"vintageandmoderninc (or any site other than 1stdibs) should not be mentioned on this forum.... by anyone".
What I was really saying is:
"vintageandmoderninc should not use aliases to plant threads on the forum directing people to their site".
Do you see the difference? I'm saying this will all due respect, because your anger towards me is a result of a misinterpretation. LRF is a real person, girlygirl was not. Do you know what I mean? I hope so.
