I just found what appears a poster from 1953 show of Raoul Dufy's work at Galerie Louis Carre'. Dufy had died in March, 1953, and the exhibition was in July and September, 1953. It was a fund raiser for the protection of the Chateau of Versailles. The picture is mostly green. Its a cafe scene under some French Tricolor banners. I've always thought Dufy was underrated. The only vague connection of this poster to DA is that Dufy did the art work on a lot of fabrics and ceramics and so was influential in design in his own way.

My question is this: Would a poster for such an exhibit be of any historical significance (thus meaning I should try to place it in appropriate hands), or is it just another poster and I get to keep enjoying it hanging over my computer screen?

I do not think Raoul Dufy...
...is underrated. His fresh combination of late fauvisme with a touch of impressionist colouring has always been highly appreciated in European art circles. I would almost think that he is over rather than underrated. For that reason alone your poster DC, if in good condition is more worth than you expect.

Duffy
I had several of his posters 30 years
ago when i lived in Houston. we found one of his posters at Thrift store and i thought i had hit the mother load i was so excited, i was counting the money .
I took the poster to the museum of modern art in Houston and one of curators/researchers looked at the poster under a big magnifying glass. although very nice to me .
I felt like a idiot when he said It was no more than just what it was a cheap poster. browning up from exposure to the sun.
Thanks DC I have not thought about that Duffy poster in 30 years now i have to be reminded about it again !!!!
I sure hope to G-d that you found the real one lol

Well, I really wasn't thinking about it being worth much...
Lithographs are never what I would call the mother lode, anyway.
I was just wringing my hands about historical significance. I'd hate to have something hanging above my computer screen that actually was an important piece of the Dufy legacy. I would want it to be in the hands of an appropriate museum. I'm a big advocate of public museums even though I know many are corrupt as hell.

can't speak about corrupt in...
can't speak about corrupt in the museum world.... but It sounds like it might be a fun piece to own.
I would enjoy it , chances are it might not be worth all that much so I would give it the old college try take it buy a museum that deals with lithographs and have one of the guys/gals take look. you might be surprised.
