Contemporary designer Karim Rashid's career took off because of his Garbino trash can he designed for Umbra but here is a Swedish design for a teak plywood trash can from the 1950s or 60s made by Servex that looks pretty much identical to Rashid's design. I'm just wondering if a connection between this two identical designs has ever been publicly observed or brought up by anyone before or if Karim Rashid has ever mentioned where he got his idea for his design because it seems like a total copy to me aside from the slight hourglass curve on the bottom of Rashid's design. Maybe he has never seen the vintage Swedish version before. Just seems very interesting to me that one very iconic signature piece from a certain famous designer looks like a total copy of an older design. What do you guys think?

On an entirely different note I'm curious if anyone knows if this Swedish trash can made by Servex was designed by Martin Aberg? All the Servex trash cans online are attributed to him but those versions don't have the oval cutouts on the top that serve as handles like this one but other than that this looks like all other Martin Aberg trash cans that he designed for Servex.
