I'd guess 80s, too. Not so sure it's well made, though--maybe the enamel is done well but the upholstery looks a bit on the cheap side. It has the kind of ripples and creases that happen when fabric is put directly on foam. The welt is wavy and they did a wrapped front on the seat cushions but the foam itself is square cut, not rounded at all (except from the tension of the fabric). It may not have been an inexpensive sofa but this is how cushions cheap upholstered furniture are done because it saves quite a bit of labor.
Heaviness isn't always an indicator of quality, either. If the frame is made of MDF or particle board boxes, it will weigh a lot. Usually when a furniture-buying guide says to look for weight, they are talking about a conventional frame of hardwood weighing more than one of pine or other softwood.
I'm also not so fond of the arm design. It looks a bit heavy on form, light on function. Anyone wanting to slouch into a corner will need a throw pillow or two to cushion the hard edge of the arm, and unless the pillow is firm foam, it's gonna get squashed under the arm after awhile. Ditto for laying on the sofa.
The arms would certainly be a nice place for a drink or snack plate. But that's why god invented end tables.
Well, the arms make the piece, for me. I find them useful and thus desirable. In any event, they're about the only statement this thing is making ?
But the upholstery color needs to be a better match, or a bigger contrast. Keep looking for source, on this one . . .
Just my ill-informed opinions. Thanks for the peek.
The surface should be able to support a drinking glass without it's tipping, for instance. Ash tray, wine glass, dinner plate, silverware. A low-pile surface, I imagine. Carpet squares ?
Bruce Goff has played with this; he used a white shag in one house. The man was mad -- but in a good way ?
ok.
I'm starting to feel the love above.
The sofa. The arms. The weight. I say a single cushion on the bottom.,,and two cushion tufted on the back...in different textiles. One should be a charcoal hopsackish ...and the other a pale shade of grey. Plop a Plattner coffee table in front, maybe an Arco swaying from above...and throw a party!
I'm damp,

Yup,
And the bottom narrow upholstered panel should be the same fabric as the seat..and also 1 piece. Toss pillows are a "must" with those wood arms, and the pillow textiles should be a mod- mix from the Great House of Girard . The rug could /should be a large Rya (sp?), unless the floor is beautiful...than no rug. And we will be needing compatible chairs, too. Cube chairs. No leg. Cloth.
Yup,

ps. I've toyed with the idea (as though the sofa were mine...hahahaha!) of attaching the single bottom cushion directly to the frame, and run the upholstery to the bottom (a cleaner look, no loose cushion, but leave all white wood exposed along the bottom rail.). The tufts must remain on the 2 back loose cushions, and I dislike large buttons. They should be reversible. LARGE doilies optional. And I'm stoned.
