Saarinen Table - Fake or not?

I recently acquired a table from a reputable auction house. The table was listed as an original Saarinen table from a collector. When I picked it up, though, some things struck me as off.

Firstly, the base is cast iron. Secondly, the marble is held in place with one middle screw and two wooden pegs. The former makes sense, the latter not so much. Also, there's a big ring and wha appears to be four screw holes that have been filled with wooden pegs. Especially this part rang alarm bells and I feel like I ended up with a knock off.

Thoughts?
