Hello, I recently picked up a vintage tulip table base of some sort and was hoping to identify whether it is authentic or not. If it is authentic, I might be more inclined to get an authentic Knoll replacement top... If it's not authentic, I might be more inclined to sandblast it and give it a creamy white powder coat.
The table came from a law firm where it had its original top replaced along the way with some horrid laminate top. I think they may have painted the base black too.
To my eye, the base matches some older tulip-style dining tables. The form of the stem seems correct for Saarinen, but it has no outright identifying marks.
Base Fast Facts:
- It's very heavy
- It's magnetic
- It threads onto a wooden mounting plate with six screws
- The base has a relatively flat metal bottom
- The top of the base appears to have a handwritten date of "3-7-72"
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
