Rocking chair  

Hard to say for sure without additional photos, preferably without cushions, but it looks like it might be Ole Wanscher for France and Daverkosen, model FD108 .  This photo is from the Danish Furniture Index from a F&D catalog.  A seller listing says c.1951.  Some of these may have John Stuart tags since it appears he imported and sold this model.   

Pardon the pun, but those striped, tufted cushions rock! If there's any way to keep them, I'd recommend it. Without them, it's just another almost great Danish beech rocker, imho.

I was thinking of making up some removable covers and keeping the originals underneath. 

It still looks to me like other Wanscher 108 models, except that all I saw had vertical back slats.  The more common 110 rockers have horizontal slats.   Maybe they made some 108 models with vertical slats and some horizontal? 

It would not be the first France Design to be altered in the course of its production history.
