Translated quote below.
The Swedish Furniture Industry Association (SMI) was founded in 1915 to form a united front against furniture dealers and create better payment terms. The association's exciting history is described here, from the foundation until 2002, when they joined the Wood and Furniture Industry Association in the Swedish Furniture Industry section.

From what I could gather (thanks google translate!)) the logo means that the maker was a member of the Swedish Furniture industry association. I believe this had nothing to do with a quality label such as the DFMC or the fact that the piece was actually made in Sweden.
The number below the logo stands for the member number. Now you just need to figure out who member #528 was 😉
I seached on google for Swedish roll top desk/secretaire.Lots of images and different styles.
Often attributed, but no marks/labels, as designed by Egon Ostergaard. Lots of dealers even say it is Danish but then say it is marked made in Sweden!!! ( unless this Egon Ostergard person is Danish ?? )
Anyways, did find one desk with the SMI label & 528 number which ,as a bonus, also has a manufacturers label.

I think there are quite a few people who don't know that Sweden, Denmark and Norway are separate countries! Maybe they think that Scandinavia is a country and those other things are just regions? I don't know. I think also that some people use the word "Danish" when really they mean "Danish modern style". And of course, some dealers know perfectly well what's what but they think calling it Danish will make it sell quicker and for more money.
This desk seems to be attributed to AB Br̦derna Gustafssons, There are many pieces out there with only an SMI label and a lot of desks and cabinets have these tyical grips. If this SMI label wasn't used by Gustafssons exclusively they certainly were the most prolific furniture maker to use them.
