Based on all the positive and helpful feedback VintageLooks received recently on his postmodern "bifurcated utensil chairs" I've decided to offer up the latest addition to my semi-permanent collection for comment.
Clearly these are inspired by the genius of Michele de Lucchi's "First" chair for Memphis. But every example I could find online is strangely unmarked. Did no one want the fame and immortality?
Any information you might have on the origin of these chairs is welcomed. Or, if you just want to compliment me on my exquisite taste and good fortune, that would be acceptable as well.
I suggest emu skin seats dyed red yellow and blue with long dyed sheep fur on the the backrests with the rear side done in a contrasting color of emu leather. I am not sure casters are the right call. I think maybe emu leather wrapped sabots in the same color as the rear panel of the backrest with is more period appropriate. And minimal padding to keep the seat svelte, just leather laminated right on.
Ha! Yes, emu leather and sheep's fur would be a major upgrade. There's an unadorned set on 1stDibs right now for $2900. With those improvements, gotta be worth at least $9K.
I came across an old thread asking if these chairs (and matching table) were by De Lucchi . The response, by someone ironically called niceguy, was that they were "poorly executed" and obviously not associated with Memphis. The only thing I see that was poorly executed was your response, "niceguy".
