Wow...

Maybe hold onto that! Those are pretty popular WITHOUT the unusual veneer, but that sure is something. Is it real or some sort of vinyl?

I guess it might not be original. I have never seen this.

If no one can help you here, it might be worth asking over on Mid Century Reddit.

Thank you, Kyle

I'm pretty sure it is original. When I mentioned to the original owner that I had never seen one like this she said she bought it off the floor like this. It's definitely a veneer of some sort. I was hoping someone here might have seen this before.

heya

For me, the coolness factor and value is in the "parquet". Whether it's a Playcraft or the various other companies who ripped off the Eames design is immaterial. You either like the look and want it or not. The manufacturer is pretty meaningless.

Gotta agree with rlg on the novelty angle. He and I both live near the home of Plycraft and, probably like many of us, have seen scads of these things in their various iterations over the the years. But I've never seen THAT particular variant before now. An oddball for sure. And, c'mon, doesn't just saying "parquet" out loud make you feel special?

I'd go as far as to say that the Eames' missed a trick here. It looks totally special to me. Easily could be a type of chair I'd end up designing a room around.

Thanks for chiming in, folks. tktoo.... I was hoping to find someone in your area or maybe someone who worked for Plycraft. This chair needs some work on the leather but I'm really excited to own it. I had no idea what I was going to find when I got to the sellers. The for sale pic didn't show the shell, only the leather.

Is it leather or vinyl? Most (all?) the Plycraft chairs I have run into have been vinyl. If you needed to redo the leather I can't imagine it would be cost effective... although that parquet really is cool...

If you live in the metro Boston area, there is a husband and wife team on the northshore that reupholsters these in fabric. They actually look pretty great afterwards but they didn't work in leather last time i talked to them. You can usually find an ad from them on Craigslist but if you can't, email me and Ill try to find their contact info. It's my username @ gmail
