Hi, I bought this table yesterday and wonder if anyone can tell me more about it. The top is a walnut laminate in a 29 3/4" diameter. Is it modernica, knoll or other? Any help is greatly appreciated.

While not qualified to add much if anything of use, I've admired this design for more than half my life and would be happy to own this example. It displays honest age and evidence of quality construction. These come up so rarely that, sometimes, close enough is close enough. That said, my gut says Modernica.

Aren't Modernica tops branded on the bottom?

Okay, had a change of gut here. Suspect it's authentic and early. I'd still be happy to own it, though!

Thanks for the input.

Does the sticker mean anything?

Possibly mfr production/model code. "TA" is common shorthand for table and 1957 was the year the table was introduced to the market. Might want to see if you can get anything from Knoll directly.

What threw me was the edge of the top. The core is obviously 2 layers of "Baltic" or "Finnish" birch plywood laminated to make the final thickness. That and the center hole in the bottom side. I couldn't imagine Knoll doing this but, after some thought, they make sense and are consistent with images of original examples available online. The overall wear and patina are convincing as to appropriate age.

Post a closeup of the base where the uprights attach?
