Hello. Brand new here. I have recently acquired a 5 drawer chest of drawers that looks like mid mod to me, but I have no idea really. There are no indications of manufacture, just some stampings. The only background I have is it was purchased in Chicago, and either 60 yrs ago, or in the 60s. Sorry, the lady was elderly and I couldn't quite hear her well. Just looking for any info anyone might have as I am a history teacher and love pieces that may have a story. Thank you.

Hi sweetie.

I wish that i could help on the id....I can't. Nope. But did you get a picture of the elderly lady? Sometimes that helps.

Best, and good luck!

Aunt Mark

Yes, it's mid century modern. It's American, one of countless pieces inspired by the great Danish designers. Danish furniture was most often made of teak; American was most often made of walnut and often it was "antiqued" around the drawn pulls and frames to give it more depth or something.

There was a lot of great innovative American design in that era but also tons and tons of "inspired by" stuff. There's a definite market for it, I think more with people who are just getting into the style, or who can't find the better stuff at affordable prices. (You either have to be very lucky or you have to work really, really hard--or both--to find bargains on vintage Danish furniture. The American stuff is still pretty easy to find and often inexpensive.)
