@retrolampguy: I'll upload hi res images of the wood grain tonight after work. Thank you for helping to ID the species. I'll take interior pics of the socket too. I know it was changed years ago as it looks so much newer than the rest of the lamp. The socket is a twist on/off switch, which I know is not original. Would love your guidance on how to restore with an original style socket & where I would find such a thing.
@spanky: the shade is celluloid (i think) and not a raffia, woven type of material. I'll answer the shade attachment query tonight after work. I believe it just lifts straight up to remove, but I could be wrong.
Original owner said it was from the 60s.
Thank you both for taking the time to assist me in learning more about my lamp. I'm new to mid century modern, danish design collecting & value everyone's knowledge.
It doesn't look like teak to me but I am also not a wood ID expert so take that with a grain of salt!
Thin celluloid does look an awful lot like thin plastic, especially when the plastic is yellowed from age. I have mistaken one for other before. I've also burned bits of celluloid for fun--it bursts into flame and and then it's out, leaving almost nothing behind! Very dramatic.
I think your lamp is quite beautiful. It might help to do a search for "rocket lamp" with various other descriptors (mod, mid-century, Scandinavian, etc). I don't think it's a true rocket lamp shape but others might call it that online for lack of a better term.
@Spanky & retrolampguy: thx for your input. I'll keep searching. Yes, the shade feels looks plastic. Too bad there are no markings of labels to help ID!
