hey all,

anyone recognise this marble lamp? it was bought in switzerland so i'm going with it being italian ... but i have a rubbish track record when it comes to guessing 🙂

and as a follow up question, it's missing the shade. anyone have any idea on what it should look like? i am going to have one made.

cheers,

billyboy

I can't help with the lamp but the lamp switch is by Achille Castiglioni.

Is the base marble?  It looks more like travertine.  The shade could be any shape (like a drum) or material (like linen) you choose as long as it has the correct fitting & looks visually correct to the base.

Maybe it is a Fratelli Manelli lamp (or attributed to) like most lamps in this style I have seen online.

thanks minimoma,

i was thinking drum shaped as well, making it as wide as the base and dropping it low enough to cover the bulbs but leaving the brass exposed. don't know how high to take it though ... they liked them tall at that period !

and what colour ? off white i guess ?

many thanks,

billyboy

Keep the shade in a neutral tone but its your choice.  Place the lamp where you plan to use it & look at it in context to where it is being used, that might help you visualize the shape, height, color of the shade.

I'm still intrigued by the the lamp switch...

it's definitely the 'VLM Switch D-662' from your link as you can see from the attached pic.

agree with you for the tone, the travertine kind of demands something that allows it to keep the eye rather than be distracted.

thanks again,

billyboy

just found this online : https://www.espacemoderne.com/en/product/lampe-de-table-en-travertin-de-fratelli-mannelli/  .

attribution aside, the upper section of the lamp is exactly the same as the one i have ...but as you alluded to in your ealier post minimoma, most travertine lamps of that period are attuibuted to fratelli manelli 🙂

probably means nothing but thought i'd add it.

cheers,

billyboy

I have this vintage Laurel lamp that everyone told me to use a drum shade but found a simple rectangular shade instead that actually used less space than if I went with the drum shade & I like it much better.  My lamp base is very different than yours but sometimes you just have to try other lampshade shapes or follow what your instincts are telling you.

You can add one image at a time by selecting the edit thing on the bottom right part of your original post.  I hope this helps.
