Hello....

Does anyone recognise this chair...?

I haven't seen one exactly the same, but I think it's a  Lurashell.... the same thin elegant legs... the moulded seat,  form, elasticated seating fabric....  I've no idea if it's a Walter Chenery, I've a feeling it's not.

If anyone has any thoughts.... it would be much appreciated.

Also, can anyone point me in the direction of any written material about Lurashell.

Many thanks in advance.

Best wishes ...Phil

@bartlebobton.  There is very little information about Lurashell.

I found a YouTube video about the restoration of a Lurashell chair.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkLhnpyBIZU

At 10 seconds in there is a brief background history and images.

Your chair features. Model"Nadina"

Wood Bros furniture company were the makers. Still in business so you could contact them.

Hello  Lexi ....  Thank you for writing back....

A big thanks for the picture....and the link to the video on YouTube. I loved the 1st class lounge on the QE2 ...very stylish, I'm a little bit unsure of the "dogtooth finish". It's seems Lurashell were quite prolific with their designs, no mediocre styles, they just went for it, I'm guessing, but I suppose there would have been a premium price on them. It is odd there is so little written about them, when searching for information I found their factory/offices/warehouse buildings in Ware (Herts)  were up for sale in March this year, that got me to wonder if there would be the odd faded picture/poster of a chair or two on a wall somewhere; I'm half tempted to drive up there and have a look around.

I pulled one of my chairs apart yesterday, the weirdest thing are the fixings for the fabric; currently the chair has velcro wrapped around x2 rails, which pulls the fabric to the shell, I now understand that's not correct. The x2 rails act as anchor points, one rail is fixed to the back of the chair/shell, the other to the seat/shell. They act together as anchor points with double hooks which pull/hold the fabric down towards the shell. It looks like a really fiddly job to replace the fabric. Also the out edges of the fabric are elasticated, this allows the seat cover to be pulled over the edges of the shell, a bit like an old fashioned shower cap, if that makes sense. A friend has some lovely thick 60s fabric which I think might work, but I'm very nervous about the execution. Rather than use an upholsterer, I'm thinking of trying a dressmakers, there are one or two in the town where I live,  both shops have been going for years and years, for some reason I don't think it would be so difficult for them. I have no upholstery skills, so I'll ponder a bit about what to do next.

Again, many thanks for your help. I'll report back, with some pictures if I decide to get the chairs recovered.

Best wishes... Phil

ps .... If you look closely at the picture of the "Nadina" chair, you will see a line on the back rest of the chair about 3/4 of the way up... The line you see is created by the rail which is fixed to the shell,  the hooks are fixed to the rail pull fabric towards the shell.
