Hello all,

Few days ago I came across this set of cutlery, but can't seem to get any info on the producer, as it's being sold by a third party.

I know I've seen it somewhere before, and I like it's lines and it's cleverness. Not to sure about the short knife blades, but heck..

Can anyone here come up with a name, or point me towards a direction?

Thanks in advance!

Brecht-Jan

What does the text on the cutlery say?

Pictures aren't sharp enough, and the contact with the seller is very poor.
Don't want to alarm him/her neither.

The text seems rather elaborate. It could say 'denmark' in the bottom line, but not sure.

"Arotan Rostfrei Germany" are the words on the knife.  Pattern AOT2  c. 1961 according to info online

Great Mark!

How did you do it?

Thanks a lot, now I'll be able to scale the askingprice against the marketvalue and how far I myself am willing to go.

You're welcome.  Well, I copied the picture into my photo editing program and blew it up and played with the sharpness and contrast enough to make out "Rostfrei", which led me to assume the third word was Germany, not Denmark.   Then from there I spent an embarrassing amount of time looking at mid century German flatware until I found that pattern.

Produced by Heimendahl & Keller Germany, designed by Wilhelm Braun-Feldweg 1961/62, model Alpha Form 801.

@mvc Interesting.  So, "Arotan" is the type of metal, an 18/8 stainless steel? I saw the word "Roneusil" stamped on a number of these as well.  Is that some variation of Arotan steel?

@mark737. no idea what "Arotan" means, but "Roneusil" is a brand name.

@mvc  I did a little research on Roneusil and found it's a German stainless steel (brand name I guess) made without nickel and has 12% manganese.  Arotan is apparently a type of 18/8 stainless according to Heimendahl & Keller's Wikipedia page.  Most of the sales listings I saw named either Arotan or Roneusil as the maker.  Thanks for giving us the correct maker and designer.

@mark737. "Roneusil" has been registered as trademark by the German company "Silberwarenfabrik Jäger" in the 30's

Wow thanks to you both for the relentless work! And a conclusive result :-)!

I tried also to enhance the branding in Photoshop but had no result. Great you did, Mark!

Thanks Mvc. I really like German funtionalist design, such as Wagenfeld, gugelot, rams... Must be why I was drawn to this flatware.

Very beautiful flatware. They probably don't make these anymore. Unless it's a special order.
