I bought these nested tables about 15 years ago and I still have not been able to id them. I think they may be manufactured by the British company PEL, as they are similar to other I have seen with a wooden top.

They are made from chrome plated steel and the glass is bevelled on the edges and held in place with a rubber seal and metal lugs. I suspect they are 1930 -40's, but if any one can put a maker to them I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for all your help.

Tick.

Just had a quick look in...
Just had a quick look in 'Pel & Tubular Steel Furniture of the Thirties' which illustrates sets like this made by both PEL and Cox but both appear to have the glass set on top rather than inside the frame. Do you have any more pics?

New pics of nested tables.
Hi, I have uploaded more views of the table, so I hope this may help
to get a better idea of the maker. The glass is original, and the ware on the
metal, and the brittle nature of the rubber seals suggests that these are indeed quite old.
Thanks Paulanna for advice and everyone else for taking
the time to look.
cheers,
Tick.

Still looking for id
Hi All,
I am still searching after more than a decade to get an id on these tables.
There is plenty of ware on the chrome finish and nice quality touches like
beveled edges on the glass and heavy tubular steel.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers,
Tick.

Good luck, the tables look...
Good luck, the tables look very sleek and nice. Your determination will pay off eventually.
I'm sure you have investigated Marcel Breuer and all the Bauhaus designers who had a great fondness for chrome tube and the manufactures associated with them. That's all I can think of when I see art deco era chrome tubing. Oh, and the Italian company Gavina produced quite a few pieces using chrome tube and glass - including some Breuer designs they licensed in 40s and 50s. Maybe check into Gavina, if you haven't already?

Thanks Lydia
The advice is much appreciated. The more I look, the more I think the tables may have been produced by the English firm PEL. I spent some time this morning scouring the web for the maker of your tables, but no luck so far. I really like steel rod and marble as a combination.
Btw, your name sake Lydia Lunch is a force to be reckoned with. I can still remember lines from her spoken word performances.
