It just might be the picture but I think that the backrest of your chair was originally upholstered. You might want to narrow your research to desk chairs.
A picture of the faded stamp might help ID it. Off the top of my head I can think of a few maker stamps that look like a M or a W in a circle.

"Required" is a bit heavy handed is it not?

Thanks for the tip Dr, the stamp is so faded its almost impossible to photograph.

Doesn't seem like it has been upholstered in the past...not sure wether the screws are original.
