Interesting piece! Based on the shaping of the cushions I think it is later.
Photos of the backs of the cushions, and of the seat frame without the cushions would be useful.
Also, the darker shoes might offer another clue. What wood are they? Photos, please. (I have a hunch already).
I am almost 100% certain that legs are veneer work. It looks live veneer grain, which yes, does frequently look different than solid wood.
It is interesting construction. Not what I expected, which is probably a good thing.
I still can't see anything where the feet are except what seems like it is very dark wood.
And the scribbles are in English? It looks like one says "Back." That might be very significant.
So you are not at all interested to know if the writing on the sofa is in English or not. You are not in the least interested in what wood the feet are. And you are not interested in seeing if you can find and photograph any other details that might lead to the opening of a new front in the case.
Usually I interpret such things to mean that someone has a financial desire to 'learn' that a piece is something other than what lies in the direction the evidence points and is hoping someone else will jump in and say, well look here, on this 1stdibs site it is rock solid 100% credited mies van der rohe and it was the first piece he ever designed in 1808 and there were only two copies made for Napolean Bonaparte, oh, and whewwy, just look at that seven figure price-tag!
Geez Leif,
read your recent post. I guess I don't understand where you're coming from. With all due respect, I spent hours trying to learn about my new pieces which included looking under different design terms, scoop vs. L vs. C and that's because I really have a desire to learn. Perhaps Pocketprince did the same. And if he/she didn't, then what do you care. The purpose of this section of the design forum from what I gathered is to comment and help others out. Is your reply the general assumption of yourself and others on this site which explains why some posts in the ID section have no replies. I find your reply to pocketprince to be harsh and I really expected a more compassionate and tolerant community on this website. There are many newcomers to this era of design. We're not all experts such as yourself. Sorry.
