Dear all, I am new to this forum but it is a treasure trove! I need some help on identification of a credenza I bought yesterday. It looks like a Florence Knoll credenza, with 2 sliding doors but it differs on details such as the leather straps or the sliding door system. On my credenza the doors are even on the front but you can pull the right front door so it can slide in front of the left door. And push the door back in its place to make an even front. The leather straps are also different in that they are thicker and they disappear into the wood and are not attached to the doors with a metal plate as you usually see in the Knoll credenzas. The wood is also different in that it is rosewood or even Macassar black or Coromandel. Back is also in these woods/veneers.
No label or sticker but on the bottom as well as on the shelfs you find the number 1968 written. I assume that that is the year the credenza was made. I would like to find out more about this credenza....so if anyone can help!
@jenni_020 An image search returned this one attributed to VOKO of Germany. A Google search of this name also returned a walnut version.
@tktoo2 Interesting. That photo was from a sold listing by a dealer in Dronten, The Netherlands, I believe called Charmig. Here's another shot.
That last photo is obviously of a different cabinet from the prior two, albeit the same model. I just thought it was a funny coincidence!
FTR, to be more accurate, I should have written that the veneer leaves are laid sequentially in book-matched pairs.
