Hello there.
I got these chairs at a garage sale and was considering taking the paint off and refinishing them. I spent many hours scouring the internet trying to figure out who made this chair to no avail. It is machine caned, there are no stickers or stamps and has funny tiny little square bolts. It's similar to many Thonet/Kohn/Etc bentwoods, but can't find the exact match. Maybe a cheapo imitation made in the 60s/70s?
Any insight is appreciated! Trying to figure out if these are worth the trouble.

The original caned bentwood chair styles were widely copied for a very long time. Yours looks relatively new if the rather fresh-looking beech on the underside of the seat is any indicator. Square head bolts are not that unusual, as far as I know. They're still made.
If the chairs are sturdy and the cane is in good shape and you like them a lot and you think you want to keep them long term, go ahead and refinish. If you're considering doing the work so you can resell at a profit, it's probably not worth the time. My two cents, anyway. I could be wrong.
