Hi! A friend recently gave me an armchair that looks similar to a Selig Z but the angles are less sharp. (I uploaded a photo of the frame) Does anyone know who the designer of this chair might be? Also, I need to have cushions made for it and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for where I might be able to order them online. Thanks so much for your help!
I have never seen that chair before. It could be Yugoslavian but it could easily be something else, too...I don't know. Do the looped springs have a vinyl covering or are they bare metal?
There are probably places online that make custom cushions but you can easily have them made at any upholstery shop. The technique for making cushions and covers for a mid-century modern lounge chair is not any different than for a traditional chair or sofa. You might have to buy fabric on your own if the upholsterer doesn't have anything appropriate for a Danish Modern style chair, and you will need to specify cushion thickness so that you don't end up with too-plump cushions. Most chairs in this style have 3" thick seats and 2" backs; some look better with 4" and 3", just depends on how high the arms are above the seats.
Modern-Fabrics.com has a really good selection of appropriate fabrics at a discount but you should get the specific yardage from your upholsterer before you buy.
