Hi,I recently picked this desk up and I can't figure out who made it. I am guessing this is mid to late 1950's. It almost has a George Nelson feel but I can't find a picture anywhere of another. Its well made and has a very low profile sleek look with the very sleek drawer built in. Could it be Kai Kristiansen or arne wahl iversen? There are no markings anywhere. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Here are a bunch more photos. The drawer is dovetailed.

And the top has edge banding on the sides that is really wide? Some has put nails into the corners of the drawer (shiny spots in the photos)?

Can we see some photos of the underside of the desk? Screws, etc? The drawer front is solid teak?

This is something interesting.

Here are more photos. It does have really wide edge banding on the top. As for the sides of the drawer it looks like those are staples, not nails and it looks original or it was just done a long time ago. It also has staples underneath on the corners as you will see in the photos. The front is solid teak.

I am now pretty sure that it is walnut. The drawer sides are oak. White oak I believe. The dovetails were not cut with a router. I believe they were probably cut on a scroll saw. You can see where they were over cut just a bit. I have seen this done on American pieces. I think it probably is American. I think the maker expected to get a fair bit for it, hence the use of rather a lot of solid wood like on the ultra wide edge banding.

The phillips head screws in pocket holes are unusual. That reminds me a lot of the work of Thayer Coggin.

Leif, Thank you very much for your help. I wish there was a way to know who actually designed/made this piece, but I like it and think it has a very cool look and is of very good quality. Very sleek looking piece.

What time period do you think its from? 1950's? Or 1960's? maybe you would know by the way its made? It looks like 50's to me.

The dovetails are rather crudely cut. It is an unusual concoction of expensive and inexpensive. This is the sort of thing you most often see with very low volume production.

Mid 1960s, perhaps even late 1960s.

Where in the world did you find it? Does it come with any history?

I found it at a local garage sale. I didn't get any history with it, but I did find it with a bunch of early Herman Miller/Eames chairs.

You could go knock on the door then and ask about it...?
