Posting here for a friend. He recently picked up this pair of mid century arm or lounge chairs. He believed them to be Mel Smilow, but after closer examination decided they couldn't be.  The stance of the rear legs and how they kick out is what gave him the impression at first but they are not rail or ladder back chairs.  The previous owner had removed original Upolstery without taking pictures, and now after he's spend hours searching the Internet for the chairs or something close he's reaching out to you for assistance so his restoration could be as respectfully original as can be to the designer.  The back of one of the chairs has original burlap and stuffing and the base is coil springs over webbing. Sculptural details are clean and fairly seamless at every point that a horizontal piece meets a vertical and so on. Some of the areas that weren't easily sanded by previous owner appear to be a very dark rich almost ebony colour.  Hopefully this is enough information for some to assist.  There does not appear to be any markings tags or stamps anywhere on the chairs including up in under the webbing from what we could see with a flashlight.

Does your friend go by 'Ziggy' perchance?

@minimoma R-G for Widdicomb was my first inclination, too. But, after a cursory image search, I'm less certain. Did you find a match?

It does seem like good quality construction, though, with innerspring foundation and all...

I am not sure if these chairs are custom ordered or the back spindles were just covered up.  If those burlap cover are not original, I suspect they use to have the exposed webbing version(?).

Ah, thanks. Frames appear very close indeed. I think you're right that they're either custom order or modified at some point early on.

Good ID. Ziggy should be pleased ...and thankful.

Thank you minimoma and tktoo2, and yes my friend is Ziggy, for some reason he is unaware of he got banned but all the same we are both in love with this furniture so it's a pleasure to do this.  So after I replied to him, he was quite excited to add another designer he didn't own to his collection, but as we both did a little more searching and comparing, as close as they are, we believe there are a few inconsistencies between them. I'll attempt to post a few photos and let me know what you guys think? So first chair would be exactly his chair without rail or ladder back or webbing I found very few and not many photos showing the back but only looking at back rest detail I was able to find one like it and another that was a high back.

And appear to be the same with the arm rest Robsjohn has a miter going down to the foot and these are a sculptured 90 before they head into the legs

And where the armrest meets the backrest or the lower seat support meets backrest or front legs Robsjohn's chairs are actually carved into an overlapping radius where these chairs meet them at a flush fit but then carved into the other members to give it the look of that type of joint and meet the radius  for a clean fit.  Just a little different style there for I question if they indeed are Robsjohn or not. For some reason had issues loading Robsjohn's comparable a will attempt to send after this last photo
