I got these five dining chairs for free. They are pretty beat up, but I loved their lines. Three chairs have original seat covers that are in pretty good shape. One seat cover is a wreck and one is recovered. The paper on the bottom of the seat says they were made in 1959 for Pilgrim Modern by Glenn of California. I googled that and they look similar to Grossman chairs that I found; however, they have wood backs instead of fabric backs, which is what I generally saw online.
I have several questions: 1) Are these Grossman chairs? 2) They are pretty beat up. They need to be restored, but I'm afraid that I don't have the money to do that the right way. If they weren't of value, I'd just slap some furniture reviving solvent on them and call it a day! I guess I'm, wondering if that is a good idea or not. 3) I know I'm not supposed to ask to have these valued, but is it ok to ask if they have some worth, given their condition? I guess I'm asking how rare they are, or if people might find them interesting (I certainly found them interesting, when I saw them, but, again, they are beat up).
In short, I'm wondering if I should sell them, as I'm not sure that I can properly care for them, if they are of value. I would like to know before I go about fussing with them in a way that makes them look good temporarily, but actually ruins them in the long run.
As an aside, I know very little about furniture. Like I said above, I just picked these up because I liked their lines and I love Mid-Century modern, in general (and they were free!) So I would be very grateful for anyone with expertise chiming in.
Thanks so much!
