The legs
on the piece lionel shows vs the ones on the McIntosh piece are perhaps inspired, one from the other -- but each detail is different, making me think they could not both have come from the same source. Once a series of decisions is made about the construction and (resulting) appearance, it seems unlikely to me that those decisions would be discarded -- unless it could be shown that a lot of time would be saved by the alternative method, or the designer (and the manufacturer ?) were of the restless sort, always trying something new ?
Looking closely, every single element is different, from the shape of the leg to the form of the intersection to the rail -- and one has a cross piece visible behind the leg, apparently missing from the other.
