Hi all,
It's been years since I've posted something. May this be a new start.
I found this bowl, marked Danmark and some sort of stamp/mark. It looks an individual piece, studio pottery. The clay is very hard, dense. It looks grated.
Does anyone recognize something in this bowl or mark?
I'm in Belgium, I don't come by Danish pottery here, certainly not studio pottery.
Thanks for watching!
Not sure what you meant by 'grated' but, here's what I see (my daughter is a competent ceramicist and I've taken a number of classes long ago): The maker was talented enough to confidently express themselves and the clay body is stoneware with some grog in it. But for the mark and matte glaze, the design would remind me of some old, tribal Persian pieces I've handled over the years.
Excellent photos, too, BTW.
Indeed grated is a rather peculiar description 🙂
I meant the surface of the raw clay seems scraped or 'grated', creating a rough look.
Not like the signs of turning or building up on a piece of pottery I normally see.
Tktoo2, you are right, it does resemble antique, vernacular pieces. For instance, I have some
Spanish ceramic bowls from Granada, dating back 150 years, that show the same running or dripping
decoration.
The bowl is difficult to place that way, but judging on the mark, I would say 1960-70's.
But then again...
